Simply put, they are the best value for your money I think. Sure shared hosting is great for when you start out and is more cost efficient but as you grow and you get more visitors and clients, you'll need a more stable server. A VPS will do great and it comes at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated server.

I pay about $20 a month for a well equipped VPS with my host right now. So much cheaper than the $70 for a dedicated server that will probably not perform as well.
